No one really knows why this dead village buried in the ground turned into a mummy, not decomposing as usual. According to Atlas Obscura, a small town in San Bernardo, Colombia, located in the Andes, the dead are here mummified that modern science cannot explain. The tradition some folks just don't get it poster. The dead mummies were first discovered in the 1950s, when the local cemetery was relocated. Dead bodies were dug in turn and grave diggers were surprised with what they saw inside the coffin. Those were the bodies that had passed away long ago but still had their hair, teeth and toenails, hands. The body was dry and the skin turned brown. Some indigenous people believe that the traditional diet, consisting of two types of fruit, guatila and balu, has accumulated chemicals within the body and contributed to the creation of a mummy when the person died. But this explanation is not satisfactory because the mummy's clothes are also relatively intact. Others say that the climate is arid and the relative altitude is the reason why the body is not decomposed.
